Mount St. Helens, Washington

July 27, 2014

What a fun day it was! Our day started off slow with morning chores and finally got out of the city after lunch. Way too late to start the day, but Mount St. Helens was only 30 minutes away and we had nothing else planned the rest of the day.

Owen earned another badge at the visitor center by completing a Junior Geologist Booklet. There’s a great exhibit with detailed pictures and facts about the eruption that took place 1980. (Please stop by the tab entitled “Education on the go” to see pictures.) He learned a lot, but he learned more by going on this helicopter tour…

I nearly threw up when Richard and Owen suggested we go on a helicopter. My fear of heights wouldn’t get us far. So it was decided that they’d have a father & son bonding hour. I had my happy hour on earth with my feet planted on the ground. More about that later…

This is where I was. Safe on earth.

I’m sitting under the umbrella making friends with the safety officer. He is from Juneau, Alaska and was giving me must-do and see during our trip to Anchorage next week. He told me about this funny story during his July 4th.  The entire block have front yard barbecues and fireworks go off in the sky and you can barely see it because the sun doesn’t go down. Still, the residents ooh and ahh at the fireworks even if it’s faint in the Alaska skies…

I also met a woman who happens to be Captain Soren, (the pilot)’s girlfriend. They are from Portland, Oregon. When I expressed that we’re interested in spending winter in the area, she gave me a lot of pointers. She told me what to expect in weather, job opportunities, apartment rental-locations, etc. I basically interviewed her.

Later on, we were talking about how nice it is to hire a maid to do our house chores. I told her I used to have a housekeeper and often felt guilty; but boy, did it feel good to come home to a clean house! I don’t know how we ended up talking about that out of the blue… It was great to have met her.  She kept me company while she waited for her boyfriend to be done for the day. It was nice to have met a friend…

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

“Be still my heart, I’m hardly breathing…” This is exactly how I felt the moment I laid eyes on this stunning view. My hand flew to my heart and I had to catch my breath. My eyes widened and I couldn’t speak for a long time. Owen kept asking, “What’s wrong mommy?” Yes, it had that affect on me. Not a single word. The water was so blue and there’s just a sense of peace within me as my eyes feasted on this lake.  It created this positive energy that I took in whole heartedly. Grand Canyon is one thing but Crater Lake is something else… And I don’t usually tell people what to do but all I can say is- This will complete you.

Oregon Welcomes Us!

The drive from North California (Dunsmuir) to Ashland, Oregon had a few challenging parts especially with the construction going on (reduced to one lane). Richard says, “the last hill was tough, our speed was 35 mph and we let the trailer do her thing, not rushing her.” There’s nothing pretty to look at except for brown dry tall grass one hill after the next. Nevertheless, we made it safely to Glenyan RV Park; Richard backed into our full hook up site without problems, plugged in, hitched off expertly and settled into Ashland. This will be our home for the next 6 days. This is also where Richard turns 42 years young  July 18.

For the next day or two, we’ve been getting a feel of Ashland, to see if this is a place where we’d like to settle. We’ve been to the local grocery store, exploring downtown where the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is currently taking place. But while there, we spent time at the library where Owen was in heaven as was I and Richard.

Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite NP

This was nothing we’ve ever seen before. Breathtaking, stunning, beautiful will not suffice. I can break out into a “Sound of Music” song, but that would scare the birds away. It’s best if we let you see for yourself…

Quiet Time. My Space…

Spa day for me!
Spa day for me!
Spa day for me!
Spa day for me!

Earlier this week, I started to feel claustrophobic again. I needed time to be by myself and to have elbow room. I decided to check out the restroom shower facility. I packed my essentials and my jaw dropped when I entered the facility.

This RV Park rocks! When a #mom needs #quiet time, she needs her bathroom space! I’m sure all my lady friends know what I mean… I took my sweet time washing my hair twice, conditioning it and listened to Billie Holiday the entire time. Then I went back to the #trailer where my boys were happy to see me refreshed, exfoliated, scrubbed and smelling like a green meadow.

Today’s plan: trailer make-over, light hiking, drive to town and check out their library. A little bit for everyone…
